And still Clara continues her agonizing journey from her old school to Shane. She now has two classes, a brand-new CE01 class (bottom-level) - which seems so young and new compared to my now-seasoned CE02 kids! – and my Friday night junior high class. Despite the teeth-gritting slowness with which she’s been disentangling herself from an institution she no longer wants to associate with, it all seems to be coming along fine. To replace her at the old school, a new teacher has been brought in, and has therefore been placed in our apartment, which then makes her my new housemate. Romilly arrived in Keelung this past Tuesday, cheerful and curious if a bit shell-shocked and disoriented. She’s South African, like Rodger, close to him in age (39, give or take), and even blonder than he is, which never fails to paint slack-jawed wonder on the faces of the Taiwanese. She seems to be a very nice person, and has fit comfortably into the comings and goings of everyone in our apartment.

That’s all for now. I’ll keep a weather eye out for exciting things that might happen, and pass them along. Until then, enjoy, and drop me a line if you feel like it.

Heather
